Support Goat Husbandry Program!
Mr. Tran Van The
Meet Mr. Tran Van The:
When I visited A Lưới District 1, I was introduced to Mr. Tran, a 66-year-old farmer interested in the Goat Husbandry Program. We came to see how he was doing, but what we found was a quiet lesson in resilience.
Mr. Tran greeted us with a shy smile as he carefully dried grains from his recent rice harvest, just enough to feed himself and his wife until the next harvest. Though humble, his pride in providing for his family was unmistakable.
While Mr. Tran is not officially part of our goat program, he is no stranger to raising animals. A few years ago, his brother gave him three goats. Sadly, only one survived the cool, damp winter. Despite the loss, Mr. Tran remained optimistic. His wife continues to tend their rice fields, and he earns a small income caring for neighbors’ cows, but it was clear his nutrition and stability were fragile.
When asked if he could manage more goats, Mr. Tran laughed and said, “Of course, this poor fella needs a new wife.” Behind the humor was a simple truth: one or two more goats could change everything. With additional goats, Mr. Tran gains a sustainable source of protein, income, and long-term food security, not just for today, but for years to come.
For $600, the Goat Program helps to provide sustainable protein and turns small support into lasting change.
