Support Sustainable Sanitation.

Outdoor sanitation.

Meet our Friend: Mr. Tran Van The – Part II

After meeting Mr. Tran and seeing his one remaining goat, we asked about his overall health and living conditions. What he showed us next reminded us why sustainable programs matter just as much as food and income.

Mr. Tran led us to his “bathroom”, a simple hole in the ground, shielded only by old sheets hung on wooden posts for privacy. This is how many families in A’Luoi manage sanitation. It works for survival, but not for health.

When we asked if he would consider an indoor toilet, Mr. Tran hesitated. He had never seen one before. His first concern was the smell if it were inside his home. We explained that the toilet would be indoors, but the waste pipe would be buried underground and directed safely away from the house. The idea of indoor plumbing was beyond his imagination. The thought of being able to maintain basic hygiene inside his own home felt almost too good to be true.

Our sanitation program isn’t just about building toilets, it’s about education, dignity, and long-term health. Each household contributes 30% of the cost, ensuring families are invested in protecting their own well-being.

For Mr. Tran, this isn’t just a toilet: It’s safety. It’s health. It’s a future with dignity. For $800, you can help families like Mr. Tran. More than 2,000 families are still in need.

With Gratitude,

Mr. Tran Van The
